While promoting individual elements works well with simple geometry, more complex geometry can quickly become unmanageable. In the image below, the seemingly simple surface created by a sweep command in MicroStation contains a large number of control points. When the surface element is promoted to GenerativeComponents it creates an unmanageable number of nodes.

In this case, it is better to promote the surface element by range.
